Muga Test:
Time required:
30 to 45 minutes

Purpose:
Performed to evaluate the function and wall motion characteristics of the left ventricle of your heart. This helps your physician in evaluating the current status of the performance of your heart muscle.The MUGA is the most accurate technique used to evaluate left ventricular function of your heart and has reproducibIe measurements from one observer to the next and from one test to the next.

Preparation:
The MUGA scan requires no specific preparations.

Test Procedure:
The MUGA test requires a tiny arm vein Intravenous which will be inserted by the technologist prior to the MUGA study being performed. The MUGA scan involves labeling a small amount of your red blood cells to an Isotope known as Technetium Pertechnetate which allows a Gamma Camera to Image the circulating blood cells within the chambers of your heart.
