I'm claustrophobic. Will I be enclosed in a machine?
Most of the tests that we perform
allow your head to be placed outside the camera. If you have
specific questions about your test, call us at 263-8001.
2. Do I need to stop any of my mediciations prior
to the test?
Your physician should give you
specific instuctions regarding the discontinuation of certain
medicines prior to your test. We do not advise patients on medication
use. If you have questions regarding any of your medicines,
call the physician that ordered this test for you. Please do
not stop any medications on your own without checking with your
physician first.
3. Are there any side effects involved with the isotope
injections?
No, there are no side effects
or allergic reactions involved with any of the injectable isotopes.
4. How much radiation is involved?
Most scans involve less radiation
than that required for X-ray procedures and is only slightly
above radiation you already receive from all naturally occurring
sources on an annual basis from food, air, water, ground and
fall out.
5. How long will the radioisotopes
stay in the body?
The compounds used are quickly
eliminated from the body-usually within hours, or at most 1-2
days without leaving a trace or effect.
6. What are the risk factors?
The tests are considered to be
among the safest diagnostic tests available.
7. Will I be
able to drive after the test?
Yes.
8. Are there any adverse reactions?
An adverse reaction is extremely
rare. Many people have had these tests before with no complications.
9. Are there any contraindications?
If you are pregnant or there
is a possibility you may be, or if you are breastfeeding, the
test may be inappropriate for you at this time.
