Time required:
1.5 to 2 hours

Purpose:
This scan is used for diagnosis and evaluation of acute cholecyctitis, suspected chronic biliary tract disorders, and bile duct obstructions.

Preparation:
Prior to the exam, you must fast for at least 8 hours ( you may have small amounts of water, but no food or other beverages).

Test Procedure:
When you arrive for your exam, the technologist will interview you regarding past medical history, recent symptoms, and medications.
You will then be injected with an isotope which will allow visualization of your biliary system. You will be asked to lie flat on an imaging table for approximately 45 minutes while your scan is completed.
